“Red Light”

”Egg tempera" helped establish Teruko Yokoi's painting style. From the early 1970s to the mid-1980s, Ms. Yokoi was strongly influenced by the abstract expression of the previous era, but later shifted to figurative expression such as flowers, trees, and seasonal landscapes, thus achieving the characteristic fusion of Japanese and Western painting This is a characteristic of Ms. Yokoi's work.
This exhibition focuses on the important period of Ms. Yokoi's career, when the changes in her expression became more pronounced and her painting style became more established, and on the important technique of "Egg tempera".

“With Flowers and Birds”

A major retrospective exhibition of Teruko Yokoi's work was held at the Koumi-machi Kougen Museum of Art in Nagano Prefecture from June 20 to August 23, 2015. To commemorate the retrospective, this exhibition focuses on Yokoi's base of operations in Bern, Switzerland, where she has been based for the longest time in her 70-year career as a painter. The exhibition will feature 55 works, including 9 works on view for the first time, spanning the 30 years from 1962, when Ms. Yokoi moved to Switzerland, to 1991, when she obtained Swiss citizenship and Bernese citizenship.

“Red Camellia”

Camellia flowers bloom gracefully or gorgeously from winter to spring. This exhibition brings together about 50 works by Teruko Yokoi, who excelled at color expression, using different techniques such as egg tempera, lithograph, and sumi ink. The universal beauty of camellias as captured by Ms. Yokoi will be on display along with her works of seasonal scenes. Early sketches on view for the first time will also be introduced.

“Wrap up: The World of Teruko Yokoi Wrapping Paper”

Teruko Yokoi's paintings have been selected for wrapping paper designs in various forms up to the present day. This exhibition introduces the original paintings currently used as wrapping paper at Enakawakamiya, as well as about 50 egg tempera and watercolor paintings that were selected as candidates for wrapping paper. Please take a look at the works depicting various themes such as red poppies, chestnuts, and Mt. Ena.

“Retrospective Exhibition”

The Teruko Yokoi Hinageshi Art Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary on November 3, 2013. In honor of this milestone year, we will introduce the history of Teruko Yokoi as a painter, along with oil paintings created in the United States and Switzerland, which have been newly added to the museum's collection. The exhibition also includes posters from Ms. Yokoi's solo exhibitions abroad and books for which she has created cover art.

“Trace of a Dream”

The warmth of the season brings buds and new branches and leaves to the flowers and grasses. The four seasons move through the land without stopping, as we look at the various events that have occurred in the area. This exhibition introduces the gentle and powerful natural landscapes painted by Teruko Yokoi. Please enjoy a total of 50 works, including watercolor landscapes and small works of poppies.

“Over the Mountains”

“Waterside”

Oil Painting Exhibition “Adoration”

This exhibition features oil paintings by Teruko Yokoi from the 1950s to the 1970s. The works represent a period of transition from figuration to abstraction as Ms. Yokoi moved from Tokyo to San Francisco, New York, Paris, and Bern, and also from the East to the West and from figuration to abstraction. The exhibition traces the transition of Teruko Yokoi's creative activities from East to West and from figurative to abstract.

“Pleasure”

“Vein of a Brushstroke”

This exhibition features works from Teruko Yokoi's expressive body of work that allow viewers to enjoy the movement of her brush strokes. In addition, we have selected works on the theme of flowers and scenes from winter and new spring seasons. “Poem of Mountain and Moon”

“Red”

The vivid red of Teruko Yokoi's work comes back to life when you close your eyes. In this exhibition, we will introduce Ms. Yokoi's red works in different mediums such as oil, lithograph, egg tempera, etc., which have various expressions: the dazzling and graceful red of poppies, the red of autumn leaves burning crimson, the red of sunset almost vermilion with the warmth of the sun...etc.

Lithograph Exhibition “Poems of the Four Seasons”

This exhibition features lithographs produced between the 1960s and the 1990s. Unlike oil paintings and tempera works, the abstractly expressed forms of seasonal flowers and landscapes are completed with more vivid colors and bolder compositions. These are very valuable works produced by Ms. Yokoi, who was directly involved in the entire process of lithography, which is said to be the most complex and time-consuming of all printmaking processes.

Oil Painting Exhibition “Prelude”

This exhibition introduces the transition of Yokoi Teruko's techniques until she adopted abstract expression, including early oil paintings made in Ms. Yokoi's hometown of Tsushima City before she left Japan and works made in San Francisco and New York from 1953 after she moved to the United States.
