“Switzerland Bern”

In 1962, Teruko Yokoi moved to Switzerland, where she would base her creative activities and life. The landscapes she painted and the nature she loved in Switzerland evoke her Japanese sensibilities, the four seasons, and her emotions. This exhibition introduces Ms. Yokoi's art, which flourished in Switzerland, by combining the Japanese spirit through her works from the middle to the end of her life.

“France Paris”

October 18 ,2017 - May 13, 2018

Teruko Yokoi stayed in Paris from 1960 to 1961 with the painter Sam Francis and her young daughter. In Paris, where she lived and worked, Ms. Yokoi deepened her relationship with the then emerging "informel" painters and further developed her own style of expression. This exhibition introduces 52 works, including 16 works on view for the first time.

“San Francisco/New York”

The San Francisco period (1953-1955) was Teruko Yokoi's first overseas base of creative activity and where she learned a great deal. The New York period (1955-1959) was a time when a new style of abstract expressionism was born and the art world was at its height, and she was influenced by various influences and directed her style of painting. In this exhibition, we will introduce works painted in two American cities that are important to the story of her paintings. This exhibition provides an overview not only of her painting career, but also of the overall trends and movements in the American art world, including changes in expression and trends over time.

“Sunset”

In addition to flowers such as poppies and water lilies, which are representative motifs of her paintings, Teruko Yokoi also likes to repeatedly depict trees in autumn and winter. This exhibition introduces a total of 56 paintings, including 10 works on view for the first time, focusing on trees, forests, and landscapes such as mountains and trees. We hope you will enjoy her expression of nature and the changing seasons, as well as the depth and breadth of her paintings.

“Blue/Green”

In the works of color painter Teruko Yokoi, blue and green are said to be the second most symbolic colors after red. This exhibition focuses on the colors blue and green, which are historically and culturally important to the Japanese people, and features 52 works, 11 of which are on view for the first time. We hope you will enjoy the variety of her works, from deep and beautiful blues to bright and fresh greens.

“Red Light”

”Egg tempera" helped establish Teruko Yokoi's painting style. From the early 1970s to the mid-1980s, Ms. Yokoi was strongly influenced by the abstract expression of the previous era, but later shifted to figurative expression such as flowers, trees, and seasonal landscapes, thus achieving the characteristic fusion of Japanese and Western painting This is a characteristic of Ms. Yokoi's work.
This exhibition focuses on the important period of Ms. Yokoi's career, when the changes in her expression became more pronounced and her painting style became more established, and on the important technique of "Egg tempera".

“With Flowers and Birds”

A major retrospective exhibition of Teruko Yokoi's work was held at the Koumi-machi Kougen Museum of Art in Nagano Prefecture from June 20 to August 23, 2015. To commemorate the retrospective, this exhibition focuses on Yokoi's base of operations in Bern, Switzerland, where she has been based for the longest time in her 70-year career as a painter. The exhibition will feature 55 works, including 9 works on view for the first time, spanning the 30 years from 1962, when Ms. Yokoi moved to Switzerland, to 1991, when she obtained Swiss citizenship and Bernese citizenship.

“Red Camellia”

Camellia flowers bloom gracefully or gorgeously from winter to spring. This exhibition brings together about 50 works by Teruko Yokoi, who excelled at color expression, using different techniques such as egg tempera, lithograph, and sumi ink. The universal beauty of camellias as captured by Ms. Yokoi will be on display along with her works of seasonal scenes. Early sketches on view for the first time will also be introduced.

“Wrap up: The World of Teruko Yokoi Wrapping Paper”

Teruko Yokoi's paintings have been selected for wrapping paper designs in various forms up to the present day. This exhibition introduces the original paintings currently used as wrapping paper at Enakawakamiya, as well as about 50 egg tempera and watercolor paintings that were selected as candidates for wrapping paper. Please take a look at the works depicting various themes such as red poppies, chestnuts, and Mt. Ena.

“Retrospective Exhibition”

The Teruko Yokoi Hinageshi Art Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary on November 3, 2013. In honor of this milestone year, we will introduce the history of Teruko Yokoi as a painter, along with oil paintings created in the United States and Switzerland, which have been newly added to the museum's collection. The exhibition also includes posters from Ms. Yokoi's solo exhibitions abroad and books for which she has created cover art.

“Trace of a Dream”

“Over the Mountains”

“Waterside”

Oil Painting Exhibition “Adoration”
